Education
Hilton Head Island and Bluffton are part of the Beaufort County School District, which is among the 500 largest school districts in the nation. The district is governed by a citizen school board of 11 elected members and a board-selected superintendent.

Student population is approximately 19,600. About 90 percent of the county's school-age population is enrolled in the district, which has a student-teacher ratio of 16 to one. More than 61 percent of the district's teachers hold advanced degrees or specialist teaching certificates and 114 are National Board Certified Teachers.
